For fear manifests itself in various forms. Be it an emotion or an expectation of an upcoming doom. But we that love the Lord God need not fear. For the Apostle Paul wrote to his young mentee, Timothy stating, God does not give you the spirit of fear but of power and love and of a sound mind (II Timothy 1:7 NKNV). I think that this passage of scripture is very important. Paul describes fear not as an idea but as a spirit. And this is true. For when fear comes it usually brings in other compatriots such as anxiety, terror, alarm, panic, agitation and trepidation.
I believe that it is not God’s will for us to live in fear but to live in faith and in the peace of God. The spirit of fear can only be removed from this earth and our lives by the power of the living God. God’s mighty power is the only power that can effectively bind or tie fear out of our lives and out of this earth. Fear can only be bound from our lives through prayer and knowledge of God’s word. The bible teaches that my people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6 KJV). If you know anything about fear, it feeds off of ignorance. Ignorance about a matter, topic, subject, hope or an idea. Fear loves ignorance. That’s why we as Christians need to know what God’s Word says about issues in life. We need not fear “Fear” or its devastating effects. We need not fear “Terror” or violence. For when you trust God and his power he will build a hedge about you and your home and nothing by any means will hurt you. But you have to believe in that.
God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them. And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect. So we will not be afraid on the Day of Judgment, but we can face him with confidence because we live like Jesus here in this world. Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love (1 John 4:18 NLT).
It is good to know that God is love and not fear. For fear, like God is a spirit. It seems to be encompassing all over the face of the earth. Here in America, we are faced with the fear of police brutality by bad seeds within the police force, fear of losing employment due to the greed of business leaders, and fear of homicides and death by domestic terrorists. Abroad the fear of religious extremism controlling the lives of many through acts of terror manifests in the hearts and lives of men and women.
