In the past, I had not specifically addressed the devil as specifically as I will today. The authority of the believer encompasses dominance over that old serpent. Sadly, many within and without the church don't believe in the concept or idea of a personal devil. For Satan/devil is embodiment of evil, death, destruction, and deception. Many renowned theologians, sages, and scientist attribute his creation to the ill-informed, uneducated, and simple minded imaginations of preachers trying to scare people into salvation. This theory presented while well meaning is destructive. For it does not account for all of the injustice, atrocities, genocides, and terror inflicted daily upon humanity. For if there is no devil and only just God, it would mean that God our Father is solely responsible for both the good and the evil that occurs in life. From both a biblical and historical standpoint, this is just not correct.
For God our father the creator of all life and the heavens and the earth believes that there is a devil. He even includes him in his book of salvation (bible). This insertion is for our benefit. So that we will know that there is evil present and that sin (lawlessness) desires to have us but we can subdue it (Genesis 4:7 WEB). In the book of Ezekial, the prophet of old writes a message regarding the origins of the devil. "Son of man, take up a lamentation over the king of Tyre, and tell him, Thus says the Lord Yahweh: You seal up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty. You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone adorned you: ruby, topaz, emerald, chrysolite, onyx, jasper, sapphire,[a] turquoise, and beryl. Gold work of tambourines and of pipes was in you. In the day that you were created they were prepared. You were the anointed cherub who covers: and I set you, so that you were on the holy mountain of God; you have walked up and down in the middle of the stones of fire. You were perfect in your ways from the day that you were created, until unrighteousness was found in you" (Ezekial 28: 12-15 (WEB)). In the book of Revelation, we find out that the devil led a third of the Holy Ones against God and they are now his co-horts (Revelation 12:3-4 (WEB)). We also learn in the same book that he is the accuser of the brotheren (Revelation 12:10 (WEB). Jesus also reports that this demonic figure has a kingdom (Mathew 12:22-28). The devil believes that his chief mission in life is to disrupt humanity, defile them against God and lead as many as possible to Hades.
The good news is that Jesus Christ came to destroy the works of the devil. For the Apostle John, the Divine writes, He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. To this end the Son of God was revealed: that he might destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:3 WEB). And one way how Jesus destroys the work of the devil is by giving us authority so that we can overcome through prayer, laying on of heads and casting the devil out of our lives and the lives of others. For Jesus told his disciples, "Behold, I give you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy. Nothing will in any way hurt you. Nevertheless, don’t rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven" (Luke 10:19-20 WEB). We as Christians have authority over the evil one but this authority is only accessed if you believe in the power of the name of Jesus. Not only this, you have to personally follow after Christ and live a life that is pleasing to our Heavenly Father. For Jesus responding this way to his disciples request for learning how to pray. He taught saying: "Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us day by day our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, for we ourselves also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. Bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’ (Luke 11:2-4 WEB).
If you do not keep your lives clean by prayer, having a good conscience, living at peace with all men and women and with God, your prayers will not be as effective. For Jesus tells us, Whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone; so that your Father, who is in heaven, may also forgive you your transgressions (Mark 11:25 WEB). When you have done all of this now, you can bind and rebuke Satan from your lives. For Jesus speaks in the gospel of Matthew, "Most certainly I tell you, whatever things you bind on earth will have been bound in heaven, and whatever things you release on earth will have been released in heaven. Again, assuredly I tell you, that if two of you will agree on earth concerning anything that they will ask, it will be done for them by my Father who is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there I am in the middle of them.” (Matthew 18:18-20).
When you pray, fast, believe and act upon God's word in faith then you can over come the evil one. But you must first learn about Jesus Christ. Study and listen to his Word on a daily basis. Link yourself to a church that teaches, preaches and heals. You can always know if the church is of God or if it isn't. If they do not believe in the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ and that he is in fact the only begotten son of God and they do not confess as such it is not sanctioned by the Lord. But if they do teach this and live out the Word of God daily and build you up on your most holy faith - then it is the one for you. Well I have more to say but I think, I've typed too many words for the night. So I'll close with this simple blessing.
The Lord bless thee, and keep thee: The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace. (Numbers 6:24-26)
