Being sure of what you believe. Now that’s an interesting concept. Today in life there are many on the far left or right who appear to be sure of what they believe. If you do not believe exclusively on their particular view point on life, you are either going to the place of the dead or just simply unenlightened. On the opposite viewpoint, there are those who lurk somewhere in the middle. Not fully sure of what to believe. They acknowledge that if there is a god, they would like to please him, her or it to curry its favor. But at the same time, they are confident that human ingenuity and intellect play a part in their experience in life. We are bombarded with numerous ideologies that appear similar but at times are distinctly different. Is there a truth or is there just my truth. One governor from the illustrious Roman Empire posed this question to Jesus. He said, what is truth (John 18:38 KJV)?
I remember when I was younger, I posed similar questions to my parents though it was without such sophistication. At the tender age of 7- 9, I started to question my faith. I grew up in a home that was built upon the principles of the Word of God. My father was and still is a pastor in the Christian faith. I would hear sermons regarding life after death, God, spiritual nature, Heaven and Hades. So finally, I did what most honest doubters do, you question. In my case, I questioned on numerous occasions. I wanted to know if I had a sure place in life. I wanted to know that if I should die, what would be my destination. I wanted to know why I should live on. Who chose to create me as a human and not as an animal? I needed certainty in life. Now you may think that this level of thinking was too sophisticated for a young child but I beg to differ. I truly believe that most individuals in life pose these questions as some point early in their life. They either choose to explore and search out truth, deny it all together or come to some kind of happy medium.
As I queried my parents about what I consider deep issues in life, they would patiently provide me with seeds of truth found within the Word of God. I truly believe that the answer to every question posed by men and women can find its seeds truth within the Word of God. I like what the righteous man Job recorded in his recollections regarding Wisdom and Understanding, “But do people know where to find wisdom? Where can they find understanding? No one knows where to find it, for it is not found among the living. It is not here, ‘says the ocean’. ‘Nor is it here’, says the sea. It cannot be bought with gold. It cannot be purchased with silver. It’s worth more than all the gold of Ophir, greater than precious onyx or lapis lazuli. But do people know where to find wisdom? Where can they find understanding? It is hidden from the eyes of all humanity. Even the sharp-eyed birds in the sky cannot discover it. Destruction and Death say, ‘We’ve heard only rumors of where wisdom can be found.’ God alone understands the way to wisdom; he knows where it can be found, for he looks throughout the whole earth and sees everything under the heavens. And this is what he says to all humanity: ‘The fear of the Lord is true wisdom; to forsake evil is real understanding.’ (Job 28:12-16; 20-24; 28 NIV). That was a long bit scriptures but I think that it apropos. You may try to find wisdom and understanding through nature and looking for eschatological studies but the bible says that basically this is a fruitless endeavor. If you want to obtain understanding and wisdom you must ask the source, God our Father.
This is why it is a blessing to be able to have access to individuals who are students of the Word of God. They will teach you about the principles of the Word along with your own private research and study. Now, one may say, Tim that’s cool but you’re looking at this topic with a biased Christian view point. That’s true, my view point is biased I do believe that if you want to obtain truth in life the only sure way to do so is to have access to the bible which I believe is God’s inspired word for humanity. I’ve studied multiple religious faiths but in all my studies, the one book that rang clearly in my life is the bible. I believe that people should choose whom they would like to serve, God or man. But it is a choice that you will have to live with. I am not angry with others who choose to deny the Word of God. I have no Hades to put them in but you must live with whatever decision you choose. That’s why it is paramount to investigate your faith or belief system. Question it to its core and if it is true it will stand the test of time. It will rang clearly through the ages unabashed and unashamed.
Sadly, many within the Christian Faith do not have this assurance in God. They, like myself have asked hard questions about God, life, death, and eternity but have not received adequate answers. As a result they have detoured and somewhere their faith in God has been shipwrecked. What do I mean? Their faith has been shattered. Every time they want to believe, that same issue(s) that first caused them to stumble comes back again and wrecks and deteriorates their faith in God.
The bible teaches the Christian family that we are to rightly divide the Word of Truth. For the Apostle Paul writes to his young mentee, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15 KJV). Christians should take time out of their weekly schedule to study and absorb God’s word. Like we take time out to watch ESPN, CNN, NetFlix, FOX, NBC, or whatever your passion is, you should take time to learn about God. Once again when I speak of God I am referring the Father God, Jehovah. But the only way for us to learn about him, is to first to learn about his Son Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the God-Man. The one who is the exact reflection of God-Father. When you learn about Jesus, you learn about God-Father. But do people want to take the time? I pray they do. Lord provide us with workers who will teach and preach your word. I pray that those who have a heart for you will receive the needed instruction and guidance that they seek. Your first step in this endeavor should be to find a local church that teaches the principles of the word of God. Then you need to water your faith by hearing and studying the word in your private time.
Until next time. Remember the words that we speak, they are spirit and they are life.
